ภาคแรกใน Three Times
Our lives are full of fragmentary memories. We can’t give them names, we can’t classify them and they have no great significance. But they lodge in the mind, somehow unshakable. For example, I used to love to play pool when I was young, and I have a memory fragment of song Smoke Gets in Your Eyes always playing in the pool-ball. Now I’m pushing sixty, and these things have been hanging around for so long it seems like they’re part of me. Maybe the only way I can discharge my debt to them is to film them.
I think of them as the best of times.
“The best” not because we can’t forget them, because they’re things that have now been lost. The reason they’re the best is that they exist only in our memories. I have the feeling that this is not the last film I’ll make in this vein

Three Times (2005, Hou Hsiao-Hsien) ลักษณะเรื่องราวสามแบบที่ต่างห้วงเวลา เปิดโอกาสให้ปรมาจารย์โหวเสี่ยวเฉียนได้สำแดงฝีมืออย่างเต็มที่ ชั้นเชิงเรื่องกล้องและแสงของเขาโดดเด่นเลื่องลือมานานอยู่แล้ว กับหนังเรื่องนี้แต่ละเรื่องย่อยเขาใช้ลีลาที่ต่างกันไป
เท่าที่อ่านดู เห็นเค้าว่านักวิจารณ์ชอบเรื่องแรกมากที่สุด และเรื่องหลังน้อยที่สุด แต่ส่วนตัวเห็นว่าทั้งสามเรื่องต่างโดดเด่นต่างกันไป แต่เรื่องแรกเป็นส่วนผสมที่จับใจง่ายที่สุด เขาได้แสดงทักษะและชั้นเชิงทางภาพยนตร์ชั้นสูง ในขณะเดียวกันก็ยังมีความน่ารักอยู่ในตัวเรื่อง ยังไม่ต้องพูดถึงว่าในช่วงเวลาตามเรื่องนี้เป็นการหวนรำลึกถึงวัยเยาว์ของเขา เขาเติบโตมาในช่วงเวลานี้และมองมันด้วยความถวิลหาและเปี่ยมสุข หากมีคนมาบอกว่านี่เป็นหนังหว่องยังอาจเคลิ้มเชื่อได้เลย
ขณะที่เรื่องที่สามที่เห็นเค้าไม่ค่อยชอบกันมันเป็นเรื่องราวปัญหาของโลกยุคปัจจุบัน ความเปลี่ยวเหงาอ้างว้างที่ไม่ได้มีความเย้ายวนแม้แต่นิด บางทีก็อาจจะจับใจไม่ง่ายนัก
แต่เรื่องที่สองนั้น ทั้งสวยงามและบาดลึกชวนใจหายจริงๆ
